Yamabiko Puppies: 56 days

Yesterday I drove through the pouring rain to take a ferry over the bay, to see the litter at Yamabiko kennel again. The pups are doing great, they're healthy, getting socialized, and were very friendly.

The sire of this litter, Teruhide http://www.shikoku-pedigree.com/details.php?id=63337, is a sesame who has produced many proven show dogs. The dam, Kokusuime http://www.shikoku-pedigree.com/details.php?id=63518, is a proven hunting dog, and has done fairly well in show as well (for a black & tan).

These two black and tan pups are still available. The male is on the left, female on the right.

The black and tan female that is still available.

I've got a home lined up for the red sesame female, and a hunter will be taking one black and tan female. That means there are still 4 pups available.

1. Red sesame male - nice quality
2. Red sesame male 2 - ok quality (smaller head, white socks, white tail tip)
3. Black & tan female - nice quality (smallest of the black and tan pups)
4. Black and tan male - pet quality (white socks and spotting on legs)

None of the pups has any major flaws, and this is just my opinion on the pups. The red sesame pups all are very light colored at the moment. I'd prefer a deeper hue, but I guess we'll just have to see how they mature.

  1. Any news on whether the JKC will update the FCI standard to include black/tans?

    1. I haven't talked to the JKC recently. I do need to see if they've finished making standards for the Nihon Ken. Thanks for reminding me.
