Paying Your NIPPO Dues

So it's that time of year where we all need to pay our NIPPO yearly membership fee of 5,000JPY.
Members have until the end of March to pay them. If it lapses, you have to pay the registration fee of 3,000JPY on top of that.

This is a pretty simple deal if you are in Japan.
The admission form is posted below, and at the bottom of that is NIPPO's street address, and also their postal account for receiving payments.

Here in Japan we just waltz down to the post office and send payment. For overseas members things get a bit trickier. Payment must be received in yen. To get this to NIPPO you can send payment in yen via an International Postal Money Order (if your country's post office offers this service) or send yen in cash through some sort of registered mail to NIPPO. Your other option is to have a friend in Japan handle the transfer for you.

I have spoken to NIPPO about setting up a PayPal account for things like this, but at the moment that is not in the works.

  1. Western Union works perfectly as a very stress-free electronic payment method to NIPPO from outside Japan, with an absolutely negligible fee for doing so. It only requires your credit or debit card and NIPPO's bank details. Then just drop an email to the nice lady in the office to let her know it has been done. Membership card arrives soon after in the post. Job done.

    1. I spoke to HQ about Western Union, but officially they don't accept payments by methods other than through the post office, or in cash. I did again ask for a PayPal account or something like that to be set up, but for now...

  2. The money goes into the bank account as requested by NIPPO, and it works again and again with the services paid for being completed successfully, but it is not officially accepted??? That's a strange one. As long as it works, people should use it. Cash in the post carries a huge risk of loss or theft, not to mention the fact that cash is actually officially a banned item in many countries' postal systems, even in registered post.

    1. True, true. As long as it's a Western Union directly into the bank account, I can't see there being a problem.
